Birthday Dinner at Majestic Restaurant

Yes, this entry is a week late, but I just ended a busy busy week at work! :)

First off, here’re some photos swiped off the New Majestic Hotel website.

And the restaurant we went to – Majestic restaurant!

Nic’s cell group member recommended this modern Cantonese fusion restaurant, and while I was a bit apprehensive at first, I must say the recommendation was spot-on!

We toyed with the idea of ordering the degustation menu but baulked at the very hefty price tag! ($90+ per person! Faint…) and so we decided to go for some ala-carte dishes.

Here are our yummy dishes…

Deep fried prawns with wasabi cream.

One word – succulent! The prawns were huge, and EVERYTHING you’d want deep fried prawns to be. Crispy on the outside but soooooooooooooooo juicy on the inside. And with a small dash of diced mangoes on the top, it was heavenly. Each prawn came atop a round disc of watermelon too! Lovely, lovely, lovely!

Lamb Chop with Carrot Cake

This was one of the signature dishes! Nic & I ordered a serving each. The lamb chop was thick but butter-meltingly tender, and the sauce (was it rosemary? I honestly cannot remember) blended so well with the meat. The carrot cake on the side was also very well done.

Braised Goose Noodles with Wanton Soup

Also another recommended dish, we gave this pairing a try. Unbelievably, I was quite full already, so just had a mouthful of the springy noodles and one of the wantons. Liked what I tasted!

Being the “typical” Singaporeans that we are, carbos (rice in particular) is a featured staple in our diet. Haha! So we ordered a serving of their Fried Rice (with Chicken and Salted Fish). Yes, this is the usual kind you can order in any coffeeshop around the island, but what can I say? We thought rice would be a good (and necessary filler). Haha! But it proved an overkill. I was full from the first three dishes, that I couldn’t really savour this dish.

In the end, our final bill came up to a little under S$100 for the both of us.

I would rate this restaurant …

Quality of food: thumbs upthumbs upthumbs upthumbs up

Value for money: thumbs upthumbs upthumbs upthumbs up
