Should Have Seen It Coming

I should have seen it coming.

After all, I’ve read about it. Talked about it. Heard about it being said. In the corridors of my office, and in the columns of numerous parenting forums.

I should have seen it coming.

But still, I was dumbfounded when it did.

I brought Jay for a special treat on Tuesday evening, and we went to Swensen’s (just us two!) for some chocolate ice-cream. Once we were done, I turned to Jay and said, “Let’s go home!”

He snatched his glass of water back from me and said…

Haven’t finish yet. Drink water then go home.

I laughed and went to video tape and tried this again. And he repeated it (albeit the last few words were mumbled as his lips were firmly fixed on the straw!)

Why did I say I should have seen it coming?

Cos Nic & I always say that to him! He is the restless one, wanting to go off after he has finished his meal, so we’d always tell him that we can’t go as Mommy and Daddy haven’t eaten / drank their coffee and once we finished, we would go off.

Right back in my face!

Stopping by from SITS. I couldn't help but laugh, because as I wish for a baby, I seem to miss all the things that used to annoy me or just make me laugh my butt off.

You've got a cute little guy.

Ah, I love it. I still remember my daughter's first sentence..."There goes the ball" as she threw a ball. And that was 30 years ago.
Thanks for sharing.

Too funny. My little guy will be two next month, and every time he has one of these moments, it always makes me stop and think for a moment that I taught him all of this (including saying "seriously" when I'm exasperated!). Happy SITS day to you!

Adorable! I remember my youngest son's first sentence:
'Poke eye out'

It still makes me LOL, b/c he was wrestling/playing with his older brother and became so frustrated. Yeah, it was a threat, but we were so happy he finally strung words together....and his voice was adorable back then, too:)

Isn't it hilarious when they turn our own words back at us? Sometimes I sit there and wonder where he got it from, then realize!
What a cutie!

SO CUTE!! And yes...it's just so lovely when they turn our words back onto us...sometimes it's not fun, other times I just have to sit and say "ok then" lol

Oh man! Kids pick up the most hilarious things, don't they?

I have 6 sisters-in-law, the youngest is 8 and the eldest is 26. There's a 10 year gap between the youngest and the next one - one day when the youngest was about 5, they were at the park, and a little girl her age didn't want to play with her and started crying at her mother, my little sis-in-law turned to the mother and said "your daughter is freaking out." HILARIOUS! Picked that one up from her teenage sisters, for sure! ;)
