I like elephants too!

Jay absolutely adores this youtube video!

And the amazing thing?

He found this gem himself as he was playing around with my iPad.

Sing me a song, Mommy…

Now that World Cup fever is well underway in our household, it means that Jay either has to sleep at 930PM sharp. Or Mommy takes over bed duties.

I consider it my wifely duties.

Give my man his space with the TV.

Side note: Even in between the matches, he is contented to leave the TV tuned to the World Cup channel. I know, it cost him an exorbitant $70+ (no thanks to Starhub). But maybe I can catch a few episodes of Desperate Housewives or NCIS? Just a thought, dear.

Making Jay sleep is a test of my vocal prowess.

Mommy is one mean storytelling machine. Jack & the beanstalk? Goldilocks & the 3 bears? Been there, done that, spun the tale!

Now, his favourite phrase is…

Sing me a song, Mommy.

It would be easier if he allowed me to sing any song.

Just the Animal ABC song.

I am happy Jay loves animals. I really do.

But singing this every single night may be a bit too much to bear. He would even tell me off if I try to skip the lion roars or the wolf howls. Haha! He knows how to sing this entire song too. Of cos the lyrics may be a bit garbled and pronunciation off, but listen carefully and you can hear him go…

A is for the alligator, with a mouth so big.
B is for the beaver, who likes to build and dig.
C is for the camel, with a hump upon its back.
D is for the duck who always goes quack-quack-quack-quack.
Quack, quack, quack, quack.
E is for the elephant, the biggest one is he.
F is for the fox he’s just as smart as he can be.
G is for giraffes, with a neck that’s oh-so-long.
H for hippopotamus, so big and fat and strong.
Du-du-du-du.
I is for the ibex, he’s the cousin to the goat BLEEEH
J is for the jaguar, with spots upon its cat.
K for kangaroo, he’s from the land down under.
L is for the lion king, his roar is just like thunder.
ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAARRRRRRRR!
M is for the monkey, he’s the cutest little thing.
N is for the nightingale, who always likes to sing.
O is for the ostrich, he hides his head in the sand.
P is for the pelican, his bill holds more than his belly can.
Du-du-du-du.
Q is for the quail who has a little bitty tail.
R is for the rabbit, he’s swifter than a gale.
S is for the skunk, to tease him is to fumble.
T is for the tiger, he’s the terror of the jungle.
GRRRRROOOOOWWWWLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL…
U is for the urno, an animal from Brazil.
V is for the vulture, always waiting for the kill (AAAH!)
W for wolf, a mean and heartless cur.
X is for the xerus with a tail of tuffly fur.
Du-du-du-du.
Just 2 more letters and the story will be told.
Y is for yellowtail, a fish that’s painted gold.
Just 1 more letter, and class will be dismissed,
Z is for the zebra, the last one on the list!

Ta-da! I always thought about penning this down, and I’m glad I had the chance too now. These lyrics were honed through hundreds of times of listening through the video, and as the volume isn’t the clearest, this is the best we’ve got. The letters S and X were the hardest for us to decipher. If your kid has a soft spot for animals, I promise this video is a sure-winner!

His Amazing Voice

I am a fan.

He is simply amazing. Blew me off my armchair!

If you close your eyes, you really cannot imagine Lin Yu Qun to be the singer.

No wonder he is known as Taiwan’s Susan Boyle. You have to hear him to believe him!

This was his first week on the show. Woe to the contestants who had to (and will have to) face him… Yikes!

This was his next song on the show… Taking on the Queen herself – Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You.

I mean, most GIRLS I know cannot sing this! But he does it effortlessly.

Like I said.

I am a fan!

Jay and the Alphabet

One of the usual questions I would ask Jayvon is “What did you do in school today?”

After the usual standard answer he gives me, “Playground!”, he would then go on to give me more info.

This time round, as I brought him on a cab ride, on our way to meet some friends for dinner, he surprised me by saying the entire alphabet from A to Z, at one go! Compared to a month ago, when the letters swirled together, this time round, he managed to make it more distinct. (except for the L-M-N-O-P part haha!)

I was pretty amazed. So amazed I whipped out my blackberry and asked him to repeat his “stunt”, which he willingly did so.

I am one proud mommy :)

Bad, err I mean, True Romance!

The CHC Easter team really outdid themselves once again. It was an emotionally-charged drama, and both the high and low points were nicely played out!

This is my favourite part of the drama… Jesus is our best Friend! Lady Gaga never sounded so good!

Outdoors with Jason Mraz

Just saw this on youtube! One of my favourite singers, in one of Jay’s favourite TV shows! The best of both worlds… :)

Should Have Seen It Coming

I should have seen it coming.

After all, I’ve read about it. Talked about it. Heard about it being said. In the corridors of my office, and in the columns of numerous parenting forums.

I should have seen it coming.

But still, I was dumbfounded when it did.

I brought Jay for a special treat on Tuesday evening, and we went to Swensen’s (just us two!) for some chocolate ice-cream. Once we were done, I turned to Jay and said, “Let’s go home!”

He snatched his glass of water back from me and said…

Haven’t finish yet. Drink water then go home.

I laughed and went to video tape and tried this again. And he repeated it (albeit the last few words were mumbled as his lips were firmly fixed on the straw!)

Why did I say I should have seen it coming?

Cos Nic & I always say that to him! He is the restless one, wanting to go off after he has finished his meal, so we’d always tell him that we can’t go as Mommy and Daddy haven’t eaten / drank their coffee and once we finished, we would go off.

Right back in my face!

Nic’s Birthday (part 1)

Nic’s cell group celebration, at the Baba King restaurant last night after service. No shots of the food as I didn’t bring along my camera and my blackberry doesn’t do well in low light areas!

Here is one of our recent family shots!

“Very nice”… was the conclusion by my little prince at the end of the festivities, and indeed it was!

Jayvon & His Guitar

We bought a quarter-sized classical guitar for Jayvon for Christmas. It is a very nice guitar, and Nic even tried to use it in his CG thanksgiving – and it sounded good!

Of course, at 23 months, he is still too young to really learn to play, but he has always loved music from young, so we thought it best to encourage this aspect to grow and mature!

He looks so grown up with this guitar!

Last night, we showed him our favourite young guitarist, Sungha Jung. He is a young South Korean (I think he is only 12 or 13 years old), and a guitar whiz.

Check out these great Christmas carols played by him!

He is a genius! Hope you enjoy the videos, and before it is too late…

Merry Christmas!

Feels Like Christmas!

I loved the Candlelight Service in church today…

It really makes it feel simply so… Christmas-sy!

This is one of my favourite carols and I love these two versions! Enjoy!

Fun With My 2yo Boy

Jayvon can be pretty cheeky at times!

We brought him for his favourite Swensen’s breakfast meal over last weekend, and I video-ed this down, as I wanted to show how talkative he is. He can really yak and yak and YAK nonstop in our presence.

Once, out of the blue, he turned to our domestic helper and told her “Umah, sit chair, cut hair…” And how he will command his Daddy to “Daddy, room (in)side take Bear Bear (for) Jayvon!”

Grammar-wise, he still has loads to learn, but ah well, it is a delight to “talk” to him. It is so funny when I ask him “Did you have fun today in the Nursery?” and he will purse his lips and go “Hmmm…… Hmmmm……” and concentrate before blurting out “Play carcar!” or one of his Nursery friends’ names!

But… this video (unfortunately) couldn’t capture his linguistic ability.

It does, however, show how cheeky he can get, and how he improvises on play! Check it out, and see it till the end!

Drumming!

Normally, I try to blog about different things in this personal blog of mine, and my boy’s blog.

But allow me a chance to brag about his latest “achievement”.

One of his early words have been “guitar” and he loves all sorts of musical instruments. So my mom got him this drum set, and this evening, before bedtime, he was showing off his drumming skills once again.

We were blown away by his sense of rhythm and perfect timing! Haha!

Feel Like Fainting?

Try peppermint gel.

See the video to the end.

The hairband one is the funniest and scariest for me! Haha! That is my private nightmare, which is why (1) I don’t wear hairbands out, no matter how in vogue they might be and (2) when I need to wear one within the confines of my home, I need to make sure I have a mirror to check my reflection!

Ya know… Just my little pet insecurity. :D

‘Fess up… You have your little quirk too! Haha!

Blackberry vs Apple

Nah, I won’t go into a long tirade about this.

I got to know of this very funny short clip that is sure to entertain Blackberry users and fans!

And Apple’s response?

Impressed!

A lazy Sunday night… and after putting Jayvon to bed (after a long 90-minute struggle), Nic & I also settled for some television!

He was nice to me… didn’t turn to the sports channel (or is it cos there’s no soccer match tonight? Hmmm…) but anyhow, we tuned to the Chinese Entertainment channel and caught 星光大道 (or One Million Stars 5) – which is Taiwan’s version of American Idol.

I love this guy’s voice! Totally awesome! Check out the video!

Day Out With Mommy

After a loooong last week, I was relieved and happy to finally spend some quality time with my boy!

Just today, I decided to bring him over to Bugis Junction. As I anticipated, Jay lurved the floor fountain! It was super difficult to tear him away.

In fact he was so engrossed, he forgot where the spray of water was, and got the water splashed into the side of his head! Check our his shell-shocked expression!

And being the good mother that I am, after I laughed my head off, I promptly brought him to “air-dry” himself. Seeing how I totally forgot did not bring an extra change of clothes for him. *ahem* So I brought him to chase some pigeons.

Once he was sufficiently dried, I brought Jay to the toy section, where he got into some fun with some drums!

After he had his fill of fun, it was also time for Mommy to do a bit of shopping! I got a top from M’phosis & wandered into Charles & Keith to check out the shoes there… when all of a sudden, I noticed Jay bopping to the beat (the shop was blaring techno-pop in the background!) and I couldn’t resist this cute video!

All in all, it was a fun day out with my lovely prince! :)

Festival of Praise 2009

It is finally over!

I had a busy week, running around to tie down the loose ends of this 3-day event, but boy-o-boy am I glad to say that it is finally over!

Many memorable moments, some good and some bad.

But I enjoyed the first night of the Festival of Praise! The main reason? This stop-motion video done up by the youths of Heart of God Church. Tremendous for a few reasons: (1) It is a stop-motion video. So all that you see is actually a series of photographs pieced together to make a video. (2) The entire cost of this video - S$53! And most of that went to the cost of buying post-its for the opening item. (3) To make sure the lighting and angle of all the photographs remain consistent, a team of three youths were ‘stuck’ atop a scissor-lift for 14 hours and food and drinks were brought up to them via a pulley! That’s right – no toilet break for 14 hours!

It is a tremendous video! I absolutely love the creativity of youths!

Check the video out!

Dancing With The Birds

It was a Monday afternoon, and as I was contemplating if I should laze at home or bring Jayvon to go shopping… and when I tweeted about it, my good friend tweeted back “Of course go Orchard (Road)!”

And so, we did go!

We took a cab (yes… just us two!) and alighted at Takashimaya Shopping Centre, where we first shared a nice McNuggets meal between the two of us. Then we proceeded to the toys section where he fiddled with all multitude of toys…

Then I wanted to walk to the new shopping centre… but lo and behold as we went out, we (or rather, Jay) got distracted.

By some fat pigeons!

Here’re two funny videos of my boy trying to get his hands on some pigeons! You have the see the first one, cos it shows Jay having a sense of social justice! In the midst of chasing the pigeons, an older and fatter boy was standing by, and this boy kicked at the pigeons! Jay was so stunned by that action, he kept glaring at this boy!

Yet another funny video!

It was a fun, albeit tiring, day out with my boy! I can hardly wait for my next day off!

Evian Commercial

On one hand, this is so cute!

On the other hand… I never liked Chucky the movie, and this commercial scares me!

*shudder*

What say you?

Autistic Basketball Hero

I came across this amazing story about Jason McElway, who is a fantastic basketball player! Born autistic, he literally soared above all limitations when it came to his game!
